Another lottery draw has come and gone without winning, which means another chance at forever exiting the rat race is gone.
I soldier on regardless because I’m #sobrave and there’s always next time. Tata ma chance.
Until the moment I strike it dirty, stinking rich, I’m reduced to ogling multi-millionaire homes and trying to figure out how I might get a foot in the property market door.
That’s why I always take a closer look when I see shipping containers being repurposed into something liveable, a dream that Australian father Zackary South has turned into reality.
The 28-year-old has chronicled how he purchased a $30 000 (roughly R500 000) shipping container from China and modified it into a rentable home on his TikTok account, with regular updates and insights into the process.
We’ll get the basics from The Mirror:
He quickly turned the shipping container into a fully functional home, enlisting the help of friends and family to set it up once it arrived.
Zackary, from Australia’s Gold Coast, is now renting out the container to tenants while renovating the rest of the property and he says it has already paid for itself.
Zackary says he is thrilled with his unique property and hopes to inspire others to think outside the box when it comes to real estate.
At first, he says he bought the property with the intention of having a granny flat. But once Zackary landed a few quotes from suppliers, he realised he could go one better.
Just checking – do South Africa’s most extensive privately-owned clearing and forwarding agents, Berry & Donaldson, have any containers going spare?
Zackary’s TikTok videos have been combined to show the entire process as it unfolded:
As his following on social media grew, Zackary said he wanted his “daughter to be able to look back on these videos and see everything that we have completed”.
He also hopes investors take note and are inspired to create spaces where lower-income earners can be accommodated.
Zackary, if you’re looking to add a pool, I have a few ideas you may like.
